We use specific measures to protect types of wood that require more care, and also for larger sized boards. A specifically designed canvas is used to slow down the natural ventilation process of the wood, thus keeping it from being submitted to important stress. The ends of some boards are waxed to keep them from splitting. These details make all the difference!
Before drying, each board is inspected and classified according to the standards of the National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA). This sorting stage is essential to maintain lots of equal quality. The lots are then butted to even the boards.
The boards are then sent to the dryer. This is when patience and know-how are involved in the process. Dryer loading is meticulously done to ensure that the wood has sufficient ventilation.
Moisture content is monitored on a daily basis*. At the end of each drying cycle, the wood undergoes the "fork test". The result is a product that has reached optimal conditioning, an important stage of quality control.
*A computer program precisely monitors all drying parameters.
